I’ve decided to start a handful of ‘top ten’ lists. In an attempt to get away from talking about PBL and education all the time, I will from time to time report a top ten list of subject areas, genres, or things that I like. I think this could also start some friendly banter since I know many of you won’t agree with my lists.
My first list is movies. I love film. I almost stayed in school an extra semester just to get a film minor during my undergraduate years. I love films from all genres and styles, and really I could break this up into different movie genre top ten lists. Instead, I’m just going to throw out for you all to critique my general movie top ten.
Here we go…
(Note: This is NOT in a specific order, and they span multiple genres and time periods.)
Inception – Best original science fiction movie that may have ever been written and produced.
Dead Poets Society – Movie changed my life and helped inspire me to be a teacher.
The Dark Knight – Simply a great film, not just a good comic book film.
Cool Hand Luke – The film and the man that simply will not conform.
The Goonies – Favorite childhood film. I miss great kid adventure films like this.
Vertigo – I think this is Hitchcock’s greatest he ever made.
The Departed – Best crime drama made in the modern era of film.
Dumb and Dumber – Slapstick at its finest and Jim Carrey’s comic genius role.
Fight Club – I purposefully avoided films that were based off of a book, but I simply love this movie.
It’s a Wonderful Life – Classic Christmas film that reminds me every year what is most important in life.
Honorable mentions: Aliens, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Resevoir Dogs, Toy Story, Back to the Future, Rushmore, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, The King’s Speech, 300, Donnie Darko, and The Lion King. **Special mention for my brother: All Dogs Go to Heaven (He loved this animated movie as a kid!)
What do you think?!
